It goes by in a flash …

I wanted to share how I have organised my children’s keepsake items and special memories.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, the organiser in me knew I wanted to track all the milestones in a special book. The one I used is from Amazon and is called Baby to Five: An early years journal hardcover and is priced at $28.26. Organising your memories with Serene Spaces for You

In this book I have included Christmas and birthday cards, I have cut lots of them up and do a collage onto the pages.

I have also added in some artwork too. I love looking back through these books and recently Cassie has asked to look through her baby box and book too.

The boxes are from a gift card shop in the UK, inside I have put the first pair of shoes, special outfits, their hospital tags when they were born plus cuddly toys, comforters, coins from the year they were born and other sentimental items.

The cuddly toys are made from baby clothes and I gave them their bunny and dog on their first birthdays. It is so hard when they are tiny babies as they are not in each size for long, to have these toys is so special and enables me to still see the cute clothes they wore in their first year. These were both made in the UK. For those of you who are very creative there are patterns you can buy to make them yourself. Pinterest has lots of great ideas and it comes under
‘memory bears’.

I also love the name art that I created from E-bay. It was super easy to do, you enter words that you want to feature and choose the colour scheme. I then framed them. When we move to our new house in August, we will put these up on display.

Do you have any suggestions on how to organise/document the best of the art work that the kids bring home? At the moment everything goes onto the fridge for a few days then gets put into a box for safe keeping (but will probably never get looking at again)

I have an A4 upright metal filing container where all drawn pictures and colourings go in, when we go out to meet friends Cassie will often select a picture to take with her and this is a good chance for her to practise writing friends names. Some special pieces of work are framed and we also have a scrap book where we select a few pieces to stick. Large A3 paintings are used as wrapping paper to wrap up gifts in. She is also very good at sorting through her file and recycling pictures which she deems as too messy. Good luck sorting the kids artwork! 🙂

Thank you so much Andrea for your comments, I think lots of people find it hard getting rid of cards/baby clothes/ kids art work, but it is really important to remember that we cannot keep everything and it is not your job too keep everything. Best of luck with your’decluttering journey.
